Intermodal solution for exceptional transport

We arranged the transport of two tubes to the Netherlands for a Belgian client. Given the heights of the tubes (5 and 5.5 meters, not including the loading height of the truck), it turned out to be easier and more environmentally friendly to move part of the shipment by barge over inland waterways.

The first part of the trajectory was covered by truck, moving the transport from the client’s premises to the Gosselin terminal on the Albert Canal. This part of the journey was carefully prepared by the pilots and permits team. They had performed a route survey and arranged for an escort during the exceptional transport.

The tubes were loaded onto a barge by crane at the Gosselin terminal (see photos) before daybreak. The barge brought them to Velsen in the northern Netherlands, just above Amsterdam. This was followed by a short drive by truck to the client’s premises in Ijmuiden.

“Mission accomplished; everyone happy. It was a great project in which we could make full use of our assets on the one hand and our expertise on the other,” concludes Koen Laureyssen, manager of exceptional transport.

Thanks to a solar panel installation of 1.5 MW from ENGIE, Gosselin is becoming a more sustainable logistics player

ENGIE installed a 1.5 MW solar panel installation at the Gosselin site in Antwerp. This installation of more than 3,000 solar panels will allow them to reduce their CO2 emissions by 535 tons per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of 268 diesel cars.Gosselin currently launched a new trial project combining the usual road transport with train groupage in Europe. It is the perfect combination between handling large volumes, less reloads, less damage risks, and focusing on sustainability at the same time.
